Seat De Mallorca - previously Barcelona chairs
So here we have it, the redesigned ‘Barcelona chair frames and footstool’ renamed ‘Seat De Mallorca’ partly to keep its Spanish roots but also a nod to the car company that uses Spanish names for its models.
We have two reclaimed ‘rigid chrome plated chassis’ or chrome chair frames as there normally known. Instead of the usual leather straps and square cushions I wanted to use a material that’s not only super strong, amazingly colourful but often never thought about.
These NOS multiple coloured seatbelts have been repurposed into a webbed sling style seat base and backrest, the tensile strength of each belt being around 3000lbs, making them more than strong enough to be used as seat support.
There riveted on all the bases to secure them to the frame, but all the backrest belts have been stitched to aviation metal buckles which make them interchangeable.
The footstool is also made to match the frames and could even be used as a coffee table.
